Sociograms

From Margaret Byrne:

"I find that the best way to get the year started is to welcome the kids back and encourage them to sit where they want as long as there are two boys and two girls in each group. When they are seated, I tell them that this is not the permanent seating arrangement but if they are able to work together I will only need to make minor changes. The reason I do this is that I can jot down a sociogram at a glance, tell which students need friends or encouragement and which students are best friends. The kids know almost immediately if their group is not working and if problems keep occurring I have them make up a new seating chart. I've gotten excellent feedback early in the year this way."
